Your Guide to the Fleet FEBRUARY 2014
Dive In to Our New IMAX® Film

1532.jpg On Valentine’s Day, we’re opening a film that you’ll fall in love with: Journey to the South Pacific. Young Jawi is your guide on this journey through the remote tropical islands of West Papua and the surrounding waters, which giant Pacific leatherback turtles, enormous whale sharks and more than 2,000 species of sea life call home. Adults and children alike will delight in this uplifting story of hope and celebration. Narrated by Cate Blanchett. More>>

Opens Friday, February 14

Preschool Prodigies

1530.jpg Is your youngster a budding pianist? A kazoo king or queen? A rocker to be? Channel those talents in Young Scientists: Making Music. Preschoolers aged 3-5 (and a parent) will explore the science of sound, wind instruments, percussion and, of course, guitars. Four 4-week sessions run monthly; choose Thursday, Friday, Saturday or Sunday morning. More>>

Session 5 begins February 6-9

Mastering Guitar Making

1542.jpg Enjoy an after-hours visit to the GUITAR exhibition, followed by a presentation in the Heikoff Giant Dome Theater by luthier Andy Powers of Taylor Guitars. This master guitar maker will discuss how development of the guitar changes the way people play and how performers impact the instrument’s development. He’ll also do some strumming on stage! Special engagement: no member vouchers or cards, discounts or passes will be accepted. Regular exhibit gallery admission applies. More>>

Tuesday, February 18, 6 p.m. exhibition viewing,
