The solar powered Fab Lab House created by the Instituto de Arquitectura Avanzada de Catalunya is also called “Peanut House,” “Cinnamon Submarine,” “Forest Zeppelin,” and “Whale Belly,” due to its creative shape. The house may have cute names but it’s powered by serious technological innovations, such as the world’s most efficient flexible solar panels. And although the project was part of a competition (the 2011 Solar Decathlon Europe in Madrid) where universities competed with their solar-powered houses, project co-director Daniel Ibanez said they wanted to “achieve a very human house.”
